1616 1 Million

sold Still life, acrylic, 6" x 6" Other News: Painter and blogger, Kimberly Kelly Santini is auctioning off some of her paintings to benefit the SAMFund - http://paintingadogaday.blogspot.com/2013/10/an-auction-to-benefit-samfund.html. The SAMFund was founded in 2003 to help young adult cancer survivors recover from the financial impact of having cancer. On November 22nd The SAMFund is celebrating the granting of their 1 millionth dollar at the Hampshire House in Boston. I met founder Sam Eisenstein Watson after reading an article about her and her organization in the Boston Globe. I didn't know any other YA survivors at the time and wrote to her. We decided to meet in person -  that was ten years ago and also the very first year of the SAMFund!  Thank you very much Kim for this thoughtful contribution!!!

1606 masks

sold still life, acrylic, 6" x 6" Other News: I caught the end of artist Steve Locke's talk at the MFA today. He has an exhibit over at the ICA in Boston but only until October 27th. One piece in the exhibit states in neon, "There is no one left to blame," (also the title of his exhibit). He talked about many things but mentioned how this statement/idea needed to exist as words as well as visuals in his work.

1605 Construct

sold Other News: French artist ORLAN was at the TransCultural Exchange Conference this weekend. She is best known for using plastic surgery to transform herself - so her own physicality and how she alters it is her work of art. She questions beauty stereotypes by adding features to herself that emulate historical references. For instance, she implanted forehead protrusions in reference to Mona Lisa's extended brow. Read more about ORLAN here still life, acrylic, 6" x 6"
